A Note from the Editor

Welcome to Denté. You were not chosen at random. Every contributor who receives this brief has been identified because their thinking, their practice, or their voice represents something Denté believes the profession needs to hear. That is the only criterion that matters here. Not follower counts. Not titles. Not geography. The quality of the perspective.

Denté exists because modern dentistry deserves better editorial. Not trade content dressed up as editorial. Not SEO-optimised how-to pieces. Not sponsored posts disguised as insight. Real writing, from real practitioners, about the things that actually matter in the practice of dentistry today.

We launched with a simple editorial belief: the mouth connects to everything else. Oral health is not a subcategory of wellness. It is not a cosmetic concern. It is a biological, functional, aesthetic, and operational discipline that has been underserved editorially for decades. We are here to fix that.

Since launching, we have published work from clinicians, hygienists, public health professionals, practice operators, and dental educators across the United States and beyond. Our readers are curious, ambitious practitioners who are already practising at the intersection of science and craft. They do not need basics. They need perspective they have not encountered anywhere else.

That is what we are asking you to bring. Your perspective. Your experience. Your clinical or professional truth, written in your voice, on the page.

This brief contains everything you need to deliver a piece we are proud to publish together. Please read it carefully. If you have questions at any point, write to me directly.

01 · The Publication

What Denté Is —
and What It Is Not.

What We Are Not

Not a clinical journal. We do not publish research papers or case reports in the academic sense.

Not a trade magazine. We do not publish product roundups, vendor profiles, or gear reviews.

Not a content platform. We do not publish pieces written to rank on Google or fill a content calendar.

What We Are

An editorial publication — in the tradition of intelligent long-form media — applied to dentistry.

Think of the best writing you have encountered in any field: precise, opinionated, grounded in real experience, written with care. That is the standard we hold ourselves and our contributors to.

Denté publishes on the 25th of each month across digital and print. Every piece lives permanently on dentemagazine.com and is distributed across our newsletter network — The Playbook and The 32 — which reaches practitioners across the United States and internationally.

The Four Editorial Pillars
Biological
The mouth as a longevity organ. Oral microbiome, systemic health, photobiomodulation, mitochondrial medicine, the oral-systemic connections that are reshaping how we understand disease.
Functional
How the mouth works — and what happens when it does not. Airway dentistry, occlusion, myofunctional therapy, sleep-disordered breathing, access to care, prevention as a clinical philosophy.
Aesthetic
The craft and artistry of how the mouth looks. Smile design, biomimetic restorative dentistry, cosmetic philosophy, material science, the ethics of aesthetic intervention.
Practice
The business, culture, and craft of building a modern dental practice. Leadership, branding, operations, patient experience, technology, and team culture.
02 · Your Reader

Who You Are Writing For.

The Denté reader is a practitioner — most commonly a dentist, hygienist, specialist, or practice owner — who is already thoughtful about their work. They are not a student learning the basics. They are not a patient looking for advice. They are a professional who chose to read Denté because they want something more than what their professional associations and trade publications offer them.

They are curious. They read widely. They may follow longevity medicine, design, business, or culture as closely as they follow clinical research. They are sceptical of hype and allergic to generic content. If your piece says something they already know in a way they have already heard it, they will stop reading.

They are also busy. Every sentence needs to earn its place. Nothing decorative. Nothing filler.

"Write for the smartest, most curious clinician in the room. Not the least experienced."

03 · Editorial Standards

How to Write for Denté.

Voice

Write as yourself. First person is encouraged. Hedging is not. If you believe something, say it. Vague, non-committal prose is the enemy of good editorial.

Structure

Open with a scene, a moment, a provocation, or a question — never a definition or statistic. Close with resonance, not a summary.

Tone

Intelligent but accessible. Think of the best conversation you have had at a conference — articulate, honest, a little surprising. No jargon without explanation.

What We Do Not Publish

Generic how-to content — 'five tips for better patient communication'

Unsourced clinical claims presented as established fact

Pieces written primarily to promote a product, service, or practice

Content that exists to fill space rather than to say something

04 · Critical Distinction

Editorial Content vs.
Promotional Content.

This Is a Hard Line — Not a Guideline
Denté maintains an absolute distinction between editorial content and promotional or sponsored content. These are not different points on a spectrum. They are different categories of content, governed by different rules, presented differently to readers, and commissioned through entirely different processes.
What Editorial Content Is

A piece written in your voice, from your professional perspective, on a topic of genuine editorial relevance to the Denté reader. Commissioned because of your expertise — not because of any commercial relationship.

Editorial content is independently written. Denté does not shape, direct, or influence editorial content based on commercial considerations.

What Promotional Content Is

Content that exists — in whole or in part — to promote a product, service, brand, or commercial interest. Always clearly labelled as sponsored content on dentemagazine.com and in all distribution channels.

Produced through a separate commercial process, not through the contributor editorial process.

The Rules That Follow From This Distinction

Your editorial piece may not promote, recommend, or endorse a specific product, brand, or service by name for commercial purposes.

If your piece references a technology, material, or tool that you have a financial relationship with — including ownership, investment, or paid partnership — that relationship must be disclosed to Denté before publication.

Denté will never ask you to alter your clinical opinion, soften a critique, or add a product recommendation in exchange for publication.

Your bio may include your practice name and credentials. It may not include advertising language, pricing, or promotional taglines.

"Your credibility with your peers depends on the independence of your editorial voice. We take that seriously."

No footnotes. Where references are needed, cite them in-text simply — author, publication, year. No tracked changes. Submit clean, final prose.

06 · Media & Author Information

Photography & Your Bio.

Headshot Requirements

A high-resolution headshot is required for all contributors. Minimum file size: 1MB.

Editorial quality strongly preferred — professional lighting, neutral or practice background, dressed as you would for a speaking engagement.

Phone selfies and practice logo images are not accepted as headshots.

Additional Images

Optional: one or two additional images relevant to your piece — clinical photography, practice imagery, or editorial photography you own the rights to.

Stock photography is not accepted.

By submitting photographs, you confirm that you hold the rights to the images and grant Denté permission to use them in connection with your published piece.

Your Author Bio

Your author bio appears at the end of your piece on dentemagazine.com and in all print editions. It should be 50 to 80 words, written in third person.

Include

Your credentials, current role and practice or organisation, location, and one sentence on what drives your clinical or professional work.

Do Not Include

Social media handles, website URLs, promotional language, pricing, or calls to action. Your bio is an introduction, not an advertisement.

07 · After You Submit

What Happens Next.

Editorial Review

Your piece will be reviewed within 5 business days. We do not rewrite contributor work. If revision is required, we return it with specific notes.

Your Approval

You will see your final piece, as it will appear on dentemagazine.com, before it publishes. You have final approval.

Permanent Record

Your piece lives permanently on dentemagazine.com, indexed, searchable, and linked from your contributor profile.

09 · Independence

"Commercial relationships and editorial decisions are made by entirely different people in entirely different processes."

Denté accepts commercial partnerships, sponsored content, and advertising. Those relationships fund the publication. What those relationships never do is influence editorial content.

If anyone — inside or outside Denté — ever suggests that your editorial piece should be shaped by a commercial consideration, we want to know about it immediately.
